back to basics lazy ass xP i sought advise from the wise elders (lol) of dA.
topic i wrote with advices from fellow dA members -
[link]i've been doing lots of meditation as to why i'm not "improving" anymore. and alas, i was searching for answers in the art scene forum where many cool people gave me really good advice. i learned that i forgot to go back to the basics. and i really think we should really really master it even a hundred times. some people suggested that i should do life drawing which is really good as i am slowly absorbing realism....
and yeah. there was one post that really got me. and it was the exact reason why i wasn't improving. the part of my brain that cared for art was sick and tired of 3/4 facing left ladies which i probably have repeated over and over (as you can see in my gallery. i never knew until they told me. honestly). and he was right!
the exact quote from

( thanks so much! )

Looking at your gallery, the problem I see is that youre just not challenging yourself- at all, really. Literally your entire gallery everything from four years ago to now is the exact same style (it may have grown more detailed as your skills improve, but the style itself is still basically the same), all of the exact same thing; a headshot, usually in three quarters view (all facing to the left, even) or a pretty young woman. Theres the occasional waist-up shot, maybe three pairs of legs, no feet. There might be a few men in your gallery, but its rather difficult to tell, since their faces are about the same as the ladies, and their bodies are always cropped out of the picture. If I looked at one picture in your gallery, I might as well have seen the whole thing.
Youre not learning anything new because youre not trying anything new. Id also go so far as to say that youve got artists burnout because the part of you that cares about art is sick of drawing left-facing three-quarter female headshots, and youve got artists block because youve exhausted every idea for a left-facing three-quarter female headshot known to man. Try something different, and I promise youll see improvement"
and also, a good suggestion they gave me was that i should broaden my horizons and not draw in my comfort zone. (which was 3/4 female bust-shot,headshot pieces) and try to draw more elaborate stuff. yeah. i would never improve if i keep on drawing the same 3/4 female bust-shot/headshot pieces.. i should draw more!! expand my horizons... >w<
and a quote from

"i was in the same boat for a long time- then i realized that it wasn't my edge i'd lost, it was my goals. I reached a point where i had become paranoid about accidently copying another person's style and trying to find my own originality that i reached a dead-end. The thing is, no artist can live in a vacuum, and i realized that growing entailed comparing and learning from other artists- copying is using only one artists techniques, originality is a culmination of all learned techniques"
what he said was totally true and is a perfect description for my being stuck right now. >w< thank you!
AND OH, for combating art block, thanks so much
